O artigo analisa a maneira como a língua falada constrói a identidade étnica e artística antes, durante e após a experiência do campo de concentração no livro de memórias História de uma vida, de Aharon Appelfeld. As línguas de sua infância - o alemão (a língua materna), o iídiche (a língua dos avós) e o ucraniano (a língua oficial do meio social) -, entremeadas por palavras romenas, são as raízes estáveis na busca de uma nova identidade assumida em Israel a partir do uso da língua hebraica, aprendida em um contexto cultural específico.
This paper analyzes the way in which language built the ethnical and the artistic identity before, during and after the experience of the concentration camp, in The Story of a Life, Aharon Appelfeld's memories. The languages of his childhood - German (his mother tongue), Yiddish (his grandparents' language), the Ukrainian and the Romanian language (the official languages of the milieu) are the stable roots in the search of a new undertaken identity by the Hebrew language, learnt in a cultural context.
L'article analyse la manière dont la langue parlée construit l'identité ethnique et artistique avant, pendant et après l'expérience du camp de concentration dans le livre mémoires Histoire d'une vie, d'Aharon Appelfeld. Les langues de son enfance - l'allemand (la langue maternelle), l'yiddish (la langue de ses grands-parents), l'ukrainien (les langues officielles du milieu social) -, parsemées de mots roumains, sont les racines stables dans la quête d'une nouvelle identité assumée en Israël par l'emploi de la langue hébraïque, apprise dans un contexte culturel.
